Joomla Template variations Fixed/Variable screen size.

We have a Rocket theme template for a Joomla site that can be configured for either fixed width or 100% of browser screen size. We utilise the 100% screen width option. We would like to use the Frontpage slideshow extension ( which is fixed size) set to fill the screen at a screen widths of 1024 pixels. This causes issues for browsers smaller then 1024 pixels with our variable sizing template, so we would like to adjust the template such that it: a) Detects screen size from the browers pior to loading the template. b) if screen size is less then 1024 pixels wide then the template is fixed at 1024 pixels, else the 100% ( variable) template option is retained. It is envisaged that Java code would be required to achieve this, possibly delivered via a cookie. A requirement is that the solution implemented not affect the page load time significantly. Tasks: 1) Develop the solution as outlined to detect browser size and switch between fixed and variable width template options and demonstrate on the development site. 2) Advise the solution (ie files/code areas changed) such that I can successfully apply the fix to our production site ( and staging site where we are testing the frontpage slideshow extension.
