I would like to set up a Writer's Coop. Joomla was not mentioned but could also be used for what I need. This website will offer alternatives for would-be authors to start or finish their novels, book of poems, articles, etc and have the capacity for other would-be authors, published authors and professionals to assist them in writing their novel, etc. The website would need to have a word processing program compatible with M.S. Word. Clients for this site would use the Member sign-in. Visitors would be able to view this site and see all the services the site has to offer. Virtually all the services of a Publishing House, i.e. printing, collating, graphics, editing, marketing, ghost writing, proofing, photography, writing courses, consultations, etc. The site would ultimately appear globally in different languages. The current methodology requires would-be authors to submit their work to a publishing house, where their transcripts (costing up to $17,000 to produce sometimes) would face the arrival of thousands of other transcripts at the same time. At the publishing house, each transcript is taken through a comprehensive system of skimming and screening which reduces the amount to perhaps 2 or 3 manuscripts that meet the publisher's specifications. Since most transcripts are never read in its entirety, potential best sellers (with a little refinement) sit idly until returned to its original author who most like sent out many transcripts to different Publishers. Who can blame the publishing houses? It would be too arduous read all manuscripts! So for 99% of would-be authors, all the money, time, and energy was wasted. This website seeks to offer an alternative that defrays the cost of publishing and marketing by as much as 90%. Authors can post their novel on this website in a password -controlled environment. Here they can work on their novel, etc., alone or invite others to assist. Members invited would need to have individual passwords that can easily be added or deleted to gain access to an author's work. The same author also has the ability to defray his costs by helping other authors with their needs in writing, editing, etc. Something like Windows XP "Users" would have to be created, with icons representing individual writers. I believe in technology and that the publishing field, just like photography, will give way to the digital age. I would like to get there ahead of the crowd. While this may or may not work, it is a niche that desperately needs to be filled. Millions of people want to write their novels or life's story, but there are no easy modes to proceed along these grounds. The potential then is unlimited. Millions could want to use this site, so future expansions would have to be part of the development strategy. I'm not looking for just a programmer. This could easily turn into a full time job, or a partnership of sorts, for the individual I ultimately select. I have spent 3 years researching this entire field. I know what it will take to make the site successful. If promoted correctly and with the right easy-to-maneuver content, success is inevitable.
