In my opinion, GPS is not an ideal thing for indoor usage, so better to use some indoor beacons (Bluetooth, ultrasonic or infrared). Hello, I have experience with creating autonomous systems, both when it comes to general system design and software development. For the robot you are planning to create, I would use positioning system based on data coming from inertial sensors, robot's odometry and wireless indoor positioning system - ("Application of 6LoWPAN for the Real-Time Positioning of Manufacturing Assets" is a good read on the subject). The positioning system would consist of a radio transceiver on the robot and multiple radio transceiver placed in various (known) places in the warehouse, time-of-flight measurements would allow for a coarse estimation of position, which would be filtered using inertial and odometry data using probabilistic filtering (Kalman filter for example). I would also suggest using a board equipped with STM32F4 instead of Arduino. I have experience with both and STM32F4 provides much more processing power and flexibility. Arduino is always an option, however using it will limit the capabilities of the system. Prototype of the device can be based on off-the-shelf development boards, for example STM32F4-Discovery and breakout boards with sensors and motor drivers. I have divided the development plan into several milestones. If you are interested, additional improvements of the system could be developed as part of another deal (for example higher efficiency motor drivers, charging systems and alike). My understanding of your project is this. - You require code to interface with the hardware that you have designed. - Your project requires a triangulation system to make itself aware of it's position in it's field of work. I have good experience with Arduino and it's software stack. I have made a few home automation projects myself with Arduino, though I have used Arduino for prototyping only and used a PCB on the final version. I feel you need a more powerful computing unit, especially considering that millisecond accuracy is not critical for your application. But once I have the detailed Bill of Material, component specifications, etc, I can know if an Arduino can pull it off. I have a few questions. - What sensors are you using for sensing the environment. - What inputs are available to the Arduino apart from sensors. - For knowing the position of the robot, what technology are you using? I did not understand what you meant by overhead cameras. I am extremely intrigued by your project and am excited to get an opportunity to work on an area of deep interest to me (Robotics and Automation) I have given a conservative estimate of the cost considering the information available to me about your project.
