Convert 2 Java based webcams to desktop software

I have 2 web cameras that I have to monitor from my desktop. I have always done this through an internet browser and simple html code ([login to view URL]). They always seem to get blocked on Java and browser security updates. Not sure about the best way to fix this problem maybe a java executable that will run on the desktop itself? I am open to ideas but would like a similar layout to the above link.
