Import xml field into mysql

I have a very large xml file that contains thousands of jobs in it.
I need to be able to import all jobs into a mysql db -- then run some queries to count how many jobs are listed by category - and by job title.
So I would need someone to write some php so the data could be ingested - or directions on how to use a tool to import the xml file into a mysql db. Then I need php code to run the counts requested above.
