Hi I can help you with the filter problem. I recently worked with opencart in very detail as I was given a task to make complete multilangage website for a client. One of the main feature of the website was to introduct different filter option in the search on category levvel to filter out products. this is almost the same we just have to utilize what is available in opencart and customize it little bit more to make proper filter system.
