PART 1: INTERNETWORKING NETWORKS Overview and Objectives This final case study allows students to build and configure a complex network using skills gained throughout the course. This case study is not a trivial task. To complete it as outlined with all required documentation will be a significant accomplishment. The case study scenario describes the project in general terms, and will explain why the network is being built. Following the scenario, the project is broken into a number of phases, each of which has a detailed list of requirements. It is important to read and understand each requirement to make sure that the project is completed accurately. The following tasks are required to complete the case study: 1. Design the network using the diagram (packet tracer) accompanied with technical documentation and oral presentation in the class. • Simulate and test the network using the network simulator tool Packet Tracer. • Correctly configure routing protocol single-area OSPF or EIGRP for the network. • Correctly configure VLANs and 802.1q trunking where necessary. • Correctly configure Frame Relay • Correctly configure serial links with HDLC or PPP. • Correctly configure DHCP. • Correctly configure NAT and PAT to enable Internet connexion. • Create and apply access control lists on the appropriate routers and interfaces according to security policies. • Verify that all configurations are operational and functioning according to the scenario guidelines • Install • Provide documentation and configuration files as detailed in the following sections. A company wants to design and implement a network. It has several sites in five cities. Two of these sites (OTTAWA and QUEBEC) will be connected using serial leased line connections. GASPE and MATANE will be connected using Frame Relay technology for reasons of financial economy. All sites use the OSPF/EIGRP routing protocol and default-route to the Internet, newly acquired by the company. The MONTREAL witch is the head quarter site is distinguished by the breadth and complexity of the LAN. This is why the company wants to create VLANs to control broadcasts, improve security and group users logically. The company wants to use private addresses throughout for security reasons and DHCP for the LANs. In order to share Internet connexion you should use network address translation (NAT) and port address translation (PAT). The company also wishes to limit Internet access to Web traffic while allowing multiple protocols within its own WAN. A set of servers are provided at the company’s headquarters that simulate DMZ although HR and ACCOUNTING departments have their own servers connected to their network. Due to the size and complexity, the company wants to create VLANs to control broadcasts, enhance security, and logically group users. Although private addresses (RFC 1918) will be used, the company appreciates efficiency and address conservation in design. To minimize wasted address space, they have requested VLSM to be used when appropriate. Requirements The company has 6 departments / divisions – Personnel, Accounts, Engineering, Sales, Customer Services and IT Support. The offsite sales team are provided with wireless laptops for access to the sales network via the Bournemouth branch. Your design must provide for • 10 employees in the Personnel (HR) department. • 10 employees in the Accounting department. • 5 employees (maximum) in IT Support department. • 50 wired workstations for costumer’s site in Quebec City. • 50 laptops for external mobile Sales staff for access via GASPE office. • The OTTAWA branch is continued by 2 big networks, one with 250 and one with 125 hosts. • A max of two servers for Accounts and HR and two General Servers for all departments and divisions. • Expect 100% growth of current IP requirements when determining size of subnets. • All networking devices must have IP addresses. • Use the private class B 172.X.0.0 (X between 16 and 31) network for internal addressing throughout the company’s WAN and LAN networks. • Use VLSM for IP addressing. • Use subnet [login to view URL] for connection to the Internet via the MONTREAL HQ router. • There is a DNS and FTP server at address [login to view URL] connected to the MONTREAL HQ router. • Security between the various networks is required to be controlled via firewalls (access control lists). • One public address, [login to view URL], has been provided external access to the Internet for the company. Phase 1: Network Design and documentation 1. Produce a logical diagram with IPv4 addressing for the based on the scenario given for the WANs and LANs that includes: • Use 172.X.0.0 for internal addressing with IP subnet zero enabled. • Apply /30 subnets on all serial interfaces, using the last available subnets. • Define router and switch names • Design a redundant switched network with spanning-tree to elect the root bridge. • Define VLANs, names and their network addresses. • Design for the propagation of VLANs with VTP. • All network addresses. • Number of hosts per network. • Link Speeds. • Design to secure the ports on the switches using port security. The next few sections have example grids for documenting this information. 2. The company expects the use of VLSM Design to maximize the use of IP addresses. A table is to be produced showing the subnets that meet the Companies requirements using a VLSM design. A sample table layout for recording the VLSM design is below. Include all VLANs and WANs. Complete the IP design, assign and tabulate PC/workstation and server addresses for each LAN in each location. Configure DHCP on the routers to allocate address dynamically with reserved address groups for the servers and switches. For demonstration purposes, the company agrees that it is enough to implement a single representative example of a server for each VLAN and a PC/workstation for each department/division. Stackable switches may be needed to accommodate the requirements for the full implementation. Before you commence with the implementation the logical diagram and tables need to be approved by the company. Phase 2: Configure Switched Network with VLANs linked to MONTREAL HQ Router Using Packet Tracer, create and connect two access switches, one distribution switch, and the HQ router. When these are communicating, connect the servers and PCs together to form a redundant switched network connected to the HQ router. Steps 1. Configure Switches 1.2 Name the switches 1.3 On all switches, configure a login password as cisco, an encrypted privileged password as class, and provide secure telnet login capability. All passwords should be encrypted. 1.4 Assign single ports as access ports with port security for each VLAN on both access switches. 1.5 Create trunk ports assigning the management VLAN as the native VLAN. 1.6 Create the VLANs as in your design 1.7 Create a Management VLAN for the switches (IT) 1.8 Connect the IT Management PC and assign a static IP address. 2 Configure MONTREAL - HQ Router for VLANs 2.1 Name the router and create the sub-interfaces 2.2 Configure the DHCP pools for the VLANs with excluded address ranges for the servers and gateways. 2.3 Connect the servers and PCs as in your design to the access switches. Tests 1. Has the VLAN database propagated to the access switches? [Y/N] ___ 2. List the configurations received by the PCs from the DHCP pools? [Y/N] ___ 3. Can the IT Management PC ping all the switches, PCs and servers? [Y/N] ___ 4. List the routing table. 5. Record the configurations of the switches, and the router. Phase 3: Configuring the WAN links and OSPF Using Packet Tracer, create the WAN links and configure the encapsulations. Steps 1 Configure the WAN link between the MONTREAL-HQ router and QUEBEC/OTTAWA routers. 1.1 Connect the routers using dedicated serial WAN 1.2 Assign IP addresses to the serial ports on the link. 1.3 Configure ppp encapsulation 1.4 Configure pap/chap authentication with password cisco. 2 Configure Frame Relay between the MONTREL HQ router and the routers of MATANE/GASPE. 3 Configure a wireless access point with SSID GASPE and WPA Personnel key cisco123456 4 Provide a website over the Internet link for browsing from any PC. 4.1 Provide a default route from the MONTREAL-HQ to the ISP and static route from the ISP to the company HQ. 4.2 Create a DNS server at [login to view URL] connected to the MONTREAL-HQ router on an Ethernet port. 4.3 Setup the appropriate services for browsing to the website [login to view URL] at the ISP. 4.4 Propagate the default route within OSPF/EIGRP. Internet access is restricted to going through MONTREAL-HQ router at which network address translation (NAT) and Port Address Translation (PAT) is required. PART 2: IP TELEPHONY Design and implementation of a small call- center with two branches, and introducing some of the recent IP- telephony’ mast-to-haves in them. Usage of Packet Tracer and/or GNS3 to complete the simulation. Preparation of related documentation and follow up by an oral presentation. • Prepare Cloud Infrastructure with Cloud@Cost, register Domain name with [login to view URL] and incoming Montreal’s, and outgoing Internet voice numbers with LocalPhone. • Simulate and test the network using the network simulator tools GNS3 and/or Packet Tracer 7, as well as Type 2 hypervisors’ Oracle’s VirtualBox and VMWare’s Player. Implementation of GNS3 VM for VNWare’s Player might be needed for some of the Groups. • Installation and configuration of free firewall solution SmoothWall Express 3.1 might be needed in some cases. • Correctly configure VLANs and 802.1q trunking where necessary. • Correctly configure DHCP and/or DNS when needed. • Correctly configure NAT and PAT to enable Internet connexion when needed. • Create and apply local and/or cloud PBXes using the technologies provided by Cisco, Elastix, and/or other Asterisks implementations (FreePBX, AsteriskNow, IncrediblePBX, and/or xivo). • Implement, configure and successfully test features as External (for the Groups using Cloud@Cost) and Internal Calls, Voicemail, Ring Groups, Call Logs, Redirecting Calls, Hide Phone Number, DISA- support (with xivo), etc. • Verify that all configurations are operational and are functioning according to the provided scenarios’ guidelines • Provide documentation and configuration files as detailed in the following sections. The company SoHo wants to design and implement in two of its Montreal’ branches small, interconnected call- centers where its collection operations will take place. The top- management of SoHo wants to test several available, up-to-date technologies and providers so to choose the most optimal one for the purpose. The two sites will be connected using serial leased line connections. They will be connected using Frame Relay technology and the OSPF- routing protocol, and default-route to the Internet. The company wants to create VLANs to control broadcasts, improve security and group users logically, as well as to improve the quality of the telephone calls. The company wants to use private addresses and DHCP for address- allocation for the LANs. In order to share Internet connexion users will use network address translation (NAT) and/or port address translation (PAT). The company also wishes to limit Internet access to Web traffic while allowing multiple protocols within its own WAN. A set of servers are provided at both sites for these reasons. Requirements The SoHo’s collection’ ops has two departments – Collection and Administration. There are no offsite operations. Your design must provide for: • Six employees in the Collection department (three per branch). • Two managers into Administration (one per branch). • Eight wired workstations equipped with MS Windows 8.1 x32 and eight softphones. • Installation and setup of up to two servers (one per branch), providing AD DS, DNS, and related services might be needed. • All networking devices must have IP v.4 addresses. • Use the private address 192.168.X.X/24 network for internal addressing throughout the company’s WAN and LAN networks. • Two public addresses per a Group (for the Groups using Cloud@Cost) will be provided.
