I have a data set of NBA boxscore data that I would like someone to build a regression model that outputs a Y value (representing Total Game Score) based on the matchup - ie if Houston is playing Portland tomorrow, based on my historical data the Total Game Score will be X. My dependent variable will be Total Game Score, with my independent variables being the players on the court, possesions, FG%, offensive rebounds, turnovers which pretty well takes care of the offensive side of the game - and then on the defensive side, possessions allowed, FG% allowed, rebound % and turnovers forced. Basically I am thinking of having two regressions run - One to generate a score for the home team, based on the opposition. And another to generate a score for the away team, based on the opposition. Then adding the two together for total game score. I want someone to build me a model and provide a step by step how to so I can run regressions daily depending on the schedule. My data will be updated daily so I want to be able to run my model to include alterations I have made to the data - ie if I want to test the model on a game that has been played, I will remove data, so for the model it is essentially a game in the future. Finally I would like the model tested to prove that the x variables are significant to Y. Model needs to be compatible with Mac and I have R but am happy to use alternative regression software

I do data analytics for a living and am currently in graduate school in applied statistics. What format will you deliver the data in? Will it be clean or will I need to clean it first? My bid assumes that I'll get clean data in a database format. Almost any standard format is ok. Your proposal said we have to prove that the x's predict the y's. Nobody can do that. All we can do it do the analysis. The data will tell us if your variables are good predictors or not. We can't force them to be, only build the best possible model and tell you if they are or not. I put a fairly long time frame on my proposal because finals week is next week so may not be able to start for at least a week. I'll do it as fast as I can. We can discuss your urgency if you like my bid.

We may use Generalized Linear Models or Generalized Linear Equations for this. I prefer R or SPSS software. Will discuss about this further if you can give me the data file. Sometimes Linear regression does not work with game score. But GEE works well. What ever it is we have to check the distributions of variables and the relationships between the response and the predictors.
