Hi there,
I am a product & mechanical designer, a certified solidworks professional with over 16 years work experience in manufacturing field. I am familiar with advanced surface model feature in Solidworks such as surface offset, surface patch, surface analysis, loft extrude, loft extrude, sweep cut, sweep extrude.
My only concern, will be the size of 3D scanned file, while generating model and creating features in feature tree, large data file maybe cause lag in solidworks program while rotating model. I would say it will be not easy for large file handling during 3d modeling but I can try to open the file and analyze.
How I work on surface model?
I would recommend to generate half of part first and mirror over the finalized body after thorough surface checked, all profile to be drawn on the symmetry line must be tangent after mirrored, the reason being is it will be much easier to manage the constraints on half of the body first. This is one of mechanical surface engineering practice I had adopted during my employment.
Specification required from your end
1. Overall dimension of part for me to create a frame boundary control
2. Thickness of carbon fiber
3. Internal structure - rib reinforcement details
4. Screw/bolt holes position and size
Thanks. Shu Sian.
