Hello,
Sounds interesting and I am a keen chess player myself. Although I do have a few questions;
Are there still going to be physical pieces (that get placed on sensors and record the moves), so in essence you can play the computer or a friend in the real world.
Is it as simple as a touch screen packaged in a stylish case ? Are the models 3D then for use in a digital game? (and the housing obviously)
Does the board light up and is there an AI in like deep blue there built in? As you would need a circuitry and buttons/ keypad to operate it.
Is mains or battery powered?
You could probably programme to LED's to light up the board from underneath board to show hints and potential moves in various colours, or flag illegal moves.
And finally (sorry for such a list) what materials are you wanting it to be made from. Wood, 3D printed, metal?
Thank you for your time and may I say what a cool project!
Aaron
