Creator - Conceivably Conveying the Inconceivable

Carly Tyll is an emerging lens based artist, recently graduated from OCAD University, and forging her way into the inter-medium segue of art itself. While working mainly in photography and photo-illustration, execution is also explored in, drawing, painting, sculpture, collage, film, animation, graphic design, and set design. Her inspiration derives from life itself, both, in individual identification, and a pursuit for conscious connectivity. In reverence of the beautiful and the sublime, her work is created by virtue of aligning the layers of existence - the physical and metaphysical. Synthesizing aestheticism and substance, her intent is to inspire and illuminate.

Exploring the absence of physicality, light is used both as a subject and medium in this series. Fascinated by the premise of photography’s nature to capture the light reflected off of surfaces in order to serve as a means of representation, I sought to explore the nature of light itself - how it interacts with itself with no subject present, it’s capacity to be a subject itself, and the manner in which it’s capable of being manipulated. Experimentally arranging mirrors, obstructions, and a variety of light sources, I created these geometric abstracts by means of reflection, diffraction and interference. Inspired and initiated by the construct of Fibonacci’s Golden Ratio, I created this series as a commentary on the wondrous, yet illusive, nature of reality. In contemplation of the beautiful and the sublime, I began thinking of Phi (1.618), as a harmonic coding for which this dimension is defined, and likewise, the potentiality for other subsequent ratios to define other dimensions. This ultimately led me to consider the human condition as being in a state of “inbetweeness”, in which, everything is defined as being somewhere amidst a plane of rivaling dualism - order and chaos, growth and decay, fantasy and realism, old and new. In light of this, I decided to fuse still life and landscape as a plateau for which each phase of the series is built upon. Envisaged through the construct of conventional household components, I invite the viewer to experience the mundane as mysterious, thereby lending obscurity to an otherwise omissive perception. **Original images maintain higher resolution
