I have a Master's degree in statistics. And this is by far my favorite subject since I first took it as an AP class in High school, and I've had the privilege of teaching numerous classes on the subject over the years, from Statistical Literacy to Business statistics. It all started with a debate on the nature of the universe. I know that sounds ridiculously philosophical, but that's how it happened. My friend believed that the universe was inherently deterministic, while I believed it was, at its heart, stochastic. The more I came to believe this the deeper I dove into statistical and probabilistic methods, which led me to where I am today. I am fascinated with the way the world works, whether it's the failure rates of nuts and bolts or a surprise result in a national election, I want to understand as much as I can.
