If you know how to use Scribus, the free desktop publishing program, I think this job should take you about 15 minutes! I have a book cover created in Microsoft word -- it's attached. What I want is a pdf file to send to Lightning Source -- a template of that pdf file is attached too. Moving directly from the word file to a pdf isn't working for me. The cover is for an 8.5 inch by 8.5 inch paperback color book. The spine width, for 132 pages, is calculated by Lightning Source to be 8.712 mm or .343 inches. There are some extra millimeters for the spine and at the sides of the pages for "bleed" etc. as in the template. The "file creation guide" is also attached. Anyway, your mission is to use Scribus (or some other program) to make a cover and export it to a pdf file, send that pdf file back to me, and please also tell me the steps you used with Scribus so that I can make any revisions that become necessary, plus so that I can do this sort of thing myself in the future if I get energetic enough. If you want to do this with indesign or quark rather than scribus, I can handle not learning how to do it myself! Thanks for taking a look at this!
Hello,
I can recreate the cover for you in InDesign. I'm a book designer and I have just designed my own book.
I am familiar with Lightning Source's policies.
All I would need is the JPEG file for the picture of the squirrel, and I will also replicate the colour of the cover in Photoshop. I'll lay the file out in InDesign and export it as PDF for you.
If I get the file by tonight, midnight, I can have it ready for you by noon tomorrow.
Thanks. I look forward to hearing from you.
