I am an OIF veteran who has been advocating for mental health reform and reduce the amount of veteran suicides. I am trying to push legistlators to make changes to the law to encourage veterans to seek treatment while in crisis, but this has been falling on deaf ears. I feel that if I had hard data and research to back me up, I might be able to grab their attention. Despite public awareness of the national suicide hotline, 22 veterans take their own lives everyday. I would like a researcher to talk with and poll veterans to find out what is stopping them from calling the crisis hotline when in crisis. Do veterans not call the crisis hotline when in crisis because: -They are not aware it exists -They do not belive the crisis worker can help them with their problems. -They belive they will be ultimately be committed to a psychiatric hospital When a veteran is in crisis, they can also admit themselves to the nearest VA hospital where they will be admitted to the VA psychiatric ward or transported to another hospital if there is no space available. If a veteran in crisis choses not to seek this option, what was their reasoning? -Fear of involuntary commitment? -Fear of being restrained, either physically or chemically? -Loss of job? -Loss of 2nd amendment rights? -Loss of freedom? -Fear that the hospital won't be able to help them? -Afraid of possibly having to pay for their hospitalization? For veterans who have already been in a VA psychiatric hospital, how would they rate the quality of their care overall? Did they feel: -The hospital improved their condition? -Their medical concerns were addressed? -They were discharged with a suitable outpatient mental health care plan? -The hospital provided a safe and therapeutic environment? -Their was an appropriate number of groups? -The groups were relevent to their mental illness? Consistency between VA hospitals For veterans who have been admitted to multiple VA hospitals, did they feel: -There was an adequate level of consistency and quality of care between hospitals? -If not, how come? Consistency between VA hospitals and private psychiatric hospitals For veterans who have been admitted to a VA psychiatric hospital and a private (non-VA) hospital -Were their certain aspects of your care in a private psychictric hospital that you felt were lacking or would be beneficial in a VA psychiatric hospital? -Were their certain aspects of your care in a VA psychiatric hospital that you felt were lacking or would be beneficial in private psychiatric hospital? Veterans in crisis can admit themselves to a non-VA hospital and have the VA pay for their hospitalization through the recently passed COMPACT Act. -I'd like veterans to be asked if they've heard of the COMPACT Act -If so, if they know what it entails and what it covers Researchers must outline their method to specifically target veterans so that they do not capture data from general public. Rate is negotiable.

Hey Bryson Henniger here! How many veterans would you like the researcher to poll in order to gather a substantial amount of data? What specific demographic information should the researcher collect from the veterans, such as age, branch of service, and combat experience? How would you like the researcher to reach out to veterans for the survey? Are there specific platforms, organizations, or channels that should be targeted to ensure the survey captures the opinions of veterans accurately? What method or approach would you suggest for the researcher to use to ensure that the survey responses come exclusively from veterans and not the general public? Are there any specific questions or additional details you would like the researcher to gather from veterans regarding their reasons for not calling the crisis hotline when in crisis? Can you provide any additional suggestions or specific questions to help explore the barriers that veterans face in seeking crisis hotline support? How would you like the researcher to handle the data collection process? Should it be done anonymously or with identifiable information? What measures should be taken to ensure data privacy and confidentiality? Are there any specific timeframes or deadlines for completing the survey and delivering the data and analysis? Would you like the researcher to present the findings in a particular format or prepare a comprehensive report summarizing the survey results?

Hello. I would love to help with this project I have a family of veterans and lost two associates to suicide. I am an avid writer and researcher whose skills will fit well with this project. To address your concerns of only getting results from vets and not general public i and start at a veteran rehab center in my city. There I could ask these specific questions and find resources to reach other veterans outside the center and still include research gathered from other resources such as case studies and online. As far as my education my highest degree is a masters degree and worked as a scientist most of my career. So I rely on data to prove my work. I look forward to answering any questions you may have.

I am an OIF veteran passionate about mental health reform to reduce veteran suicides. To persuade legislators, I need data on why veterans hesitate to call the crisis hotline. I seek a researcher to conduct polls, focusing on whether veterans are unaware of the hotline, doubt its effectiveness, or fear commitment. I also want to understand their reasons for not seeking admission to VA hospitals during crises, rating the quality of care and consistency between hospitals. Additionally, I'm interested in veterans' experiences with private hospitals and their awareness of the COMPACT Act. How will you specifically target veterans in your research?

I can assist you in conducting research and collecting data to support your advocacy for mental health reform and reducing veteran suicides. I will design a comprehensive survey specifically targeting veterans to gather their perspectives on seeking help during a crisis. The survey will cover important aspects such as awareness of the crisis hotline, reasons for not calling, concerns about seeking help at VA hospitals, experiences with VA psychiatric care, consistency between VA hospitals, and comparisons with private psychiatric hospitals. I will ensure that the survey captures data exclusively from veterans and not the general public. With my research expertise and attention to detail, I will provide you with valuable insights and data to strengthen your case and grab the attention of legislators. Together, we can make a difference in improving mental health support for veterans.

Researching Barriers to Help Veterans in Crisis: Saving Lives, Improving Care As an OIF veteran and mental health advocate, I am proposing a research project to identify barriers preventing veterans from seeking help during crisis. With 22 veterans taking their own lives daily, the need for reform is urgent. The study will poll veterans on their awareness of crisis hotlines, reasons for not seeking help, experiences with VA and private psychiatric hospitals, and knowledge of the COMPACT Act. As a ten-year veteran and experienced researcher, my expertise and passion make me the best candidate for this critical project. Let's work together to save lives and improve care. Note: Bid Amount And timeline is just a placeholder actual value would be provided after 1 to 1 discussion over chat

Hello! I’m intrigued by this research project and am excited about the prospect of working with you. I would propose starting with qualitative research to identify less apparent barriers to seeking assistance before using surveys with a larger sample. I’d conduct in-person or virtual interviews and focus groups (e.g., Reddit or Facebook) to gather qualitative data. I have both personal and former work contacts in the military who could help me network and identify interested participants. I’d also work with my city’s veteran center and other local agencies to find potential participants. This study parallels the qualitative research I conducted for my master’s thesis in counseling psychology, which examined why doctoral candidates in psychology are reluctant to seek counseling and mental health assistance. I worked for several years in a psychiatric hospital and a local mental health center. I feel confident I have the skills to set participants at ease, ask the right questions, and collect data about what would prevent someone from getting the help they need. After completing qualitative and quantitative data collection, I'd conduct analyses and provide a written report. I’ve also worked as a technical and content writer, with training in copywriting, so I’d present results in whatever format you feel would be best. I’d be thrilled to provide research to influence policy change and encourage veterans to get the care they need. Regards, Michele
