Linux x86 bootable hard disk under 30meg

This project is to build a tiny, *Hard Disk bootable* character mode Linux on x86 PC. I have a PC that has a 30 MEG hard disk. Actually it’s called a PC104, and it is a Single Board Computer, but that’s irrelevant. The PC acts like it’s a big boy, just with a 30 meg hard disk. (hard disk, does not spin, its on flash memory, but acts like a regular hard disk) Thought you might want a little background info. I have a program that needs to run in this OS. The program can use any *one* of com ports 1 thru 4, so the OS must support serial ports. The program is started from a terminal script (bash) by entering the program name and parameters. The display is color, 16bit. I’ve run WinCE on the machine in the past and it looked great. So the display must support character mode color. Actually, just one color, Amber (dark orange, like the old IBM terminals). So that’s the gig. I’d like as much linux as I can get in 30 meg, which is not very much. That’s ok. I don’t need Xwin, editors…no extras, Just enough linux to run my program, which by the way compiles with gcc on another Linux machine. I do have a floppy drive to use for the installation if needed, but floppy drive will be removed for regular operation of the machine. Can be SuSe, Mandrake, red-hat or compatible.
