This project involves the creation of a rules/action engine used to perform a pre-defined set of actions against qualifying transactions. It works like this: - The administrator configures "rules" that contain "filters" and "actions" - The filters qualify transactions for each rule - The actions determine what action(s) will be taken against the transactions that qualify for that rule - Transactions are run against the rules and the associated actions are performed The problems that need to be addressed are: - A transaction may qualify for multiple rules. We need to determine the "best fit" rule for each transaction, based on its attributes - A rule may have multiple actions, and the actions may conflict, such that one action will make the following action impossible (e.g., delete followed by rename) To address these problems: - A "best fit" methodology (using ranking or whatever) could be devised to predictibly determine which rule would be applied for a transaction if a transaction would qualify for multiple rules - Ideally, a framework could be devised whereby the administrator would be advised at the time of rule definition that there are conflicting actions We could code all this on a case-by-case basis but we would prefer to have an external engine that provides a framework for this. Please bid this project if you have some experience with rules engines (or perhaps knowledge-based systems, AI, fuzzy logic, etc.) and may have some insight in how to accomplish these tasks successfully and would be able to identify any other pitfalls that may exist.
