Just some feedback on my progress with the bids and also a request for help!! (Bye the way, I cannot express enough how much I am impressed and also somewhat overwhelmed by the bids received ??" thank you once again!) Going through the bids I realised 2 things: I’ll have to break up the project in smaller projects and I’ll have to give more info to you guys. Breaking up the project is not a problem. I do however have a problem providing a detailed functional spec. As I am not from an IT background this seems like a project on its own, where expert involvement will be required. I am also reluctant to do it, since casting the functionality of my system in stone might blow up in my face later. After doing some research it seems there is other methodologies when it comes to software development (as appose to spending hours on a functional spec which in itself might be flawed). Some websites were referring to extreme programming while others mentioned developing from the user interface backwards. All of them had a big emphasis on ongoing customer interaction and involvement. Now to be honest this makes more sense to me. In other words I want to get away from the concept of putting a functional spec out there for people to bid on. I’d rather build a relationship with one or two teams and just start building one section at a time, maybe with the help of some visual tools, etc. So I don’t know how you feel about this and if any of you would be prepared to work on this basis. If yes, how would the bidding be affected to be fare to everybody and how would one go about getting started? Also do you have any recommendations with regard to tools, etc that one would use? Hope you guys understand my problem. I am open to suggestions and any additional comments will be appreciated.
