We work in video production and often have to encode large numbers of files into streaming media formats, then append the file names which result with a letter, for example "h" to indicate that it is encoded for high-speed access. We do this now by hand. What we need is a simple "File Renamer" program which will append a letter or letters to all the files in a folder. For example, a folder might contain files named [login to view URL], [login to view URL], 236.avi. After going through File Renamer, if we want to add "w" to it, the files in that folder would then have the names [login to view URL], [login to view URL], 236w.avi. Note the file extention does not change, just the name before the period. Here's how the program would work: after opening the program you'd be presented with a screen that says "In what folder do you want to rename ALL the files?" There would be a browse button allowing you to select the folder by browsing to it. Below that the screen would say "What letter or letters would you like to append to every file?" There would be an input box allowing for anywhere from 1 to 10 alpha-numeric characters. Below that would be a button that says "Rename Files". After the program runs a screen would come up that says, for example, "16 files successfully renamed. Rename files in another folder?" You then have the option of yes or exit. If one chooses yes and goes back to the first screen, the browse button would then "remember" the last folder it worked on, and that would be the starting point for browsing to a new folder. That's it! We'd need simple, idiot-proof installation and a robust program that doesn't crash the computer or mess up any system files or anything like that. We run three computers, one on Windows 98, one Windows ME and Windows XP.
