My understanding is that you want to link 2 FileMaker database files such that when you enter the client id in the user interface if one database then the client name can be seen on that interface. as a field. I'd like to know what version of FileMaker you are using. It would help me to have the two database files if that is possible. I would be happy to make a video of how the problem is resolved and send that to you.

That's easy, you have to create a new script and tell it to record the client ID(with the set variable function - set variable->select the field with the ID) then you have to tell it to go to a layout based on the table with the client names( presuming you have already copied it to the database with the IDs and each client has its own ID) and do a perform find script step in which you insert the variable which you have previously recorded as the search operator. After the script looks for that ID, it will either find something or not, you have to tell it what to do in either case so if it finds nothing you tell it to exit the script, if it finds the ID, you tell it to populate the field you want. You do this by seting another variable with the name of the client like before. Then you have to tell it to go back to the layout with the field you want populated(with the go to layout command) and use the set field command to populate the field(set field"name of field"->the second variable you have recorded). When recording or using a variable remember to use the $ sign before it's name that's what sets it apart as a variable(Eg: Set variable and you will have 2 options to fill out, the variable name Eg:$NameOfClient, and the field from where you record the variable Eg:Client Name). It's the most stable way to do it, you can google it up if you want, and I would be glad to skype and show you the technique, but I'm sure you can do it yourself if you try. You're welcome :)
