I need to conditionally hide elements

Hi. I want to conditionally hide my Wordpress blog featured image and its title. I have the blog image now loading correctly on the main blog page, but the issue is that an empty container loads when the blog page's featured image is not present... I don't want an empty container to load. I want to conditionally hide this with my IF statement.. and conditionally hide the title as well. None of what I try works though. I would like you to Skype with me and use Teamviewer so I can see the changes that are being made. If you know PHP, IF statements and Wordpress hooks then this should just take a few moments.
