37595 Flash/XML based search app

Flash-based application reading/writing XML "database" file. Must run on PC/Mac/Unix platforms I need a searchable catalog for an ever expanding library of digital content. The app needs to be self contained and run on a desktop, not in a client/server environment. After much research, it seems that a Flash based app using a local XML file as a database will be the way to go. The XML part isn't essential, BUT the app MUST be self contained i.e. not require the installation of anything else and not require communication with a server. So that rules out MySQL etc. Each item in the catalog would have an associated image, possibly a movie file, a unique name, keyword description, multiple meta-data fields and a secondary keyword description. The search function would offer the choice of a simple keyword search, and/or a parameter match based on meta-data fields in the database. So for example: find all content that matches the search term "fancy" OR find all content where parameter#1=5. For all clips matching the search criteria, the app would display the content name, the image with a link to the movie-clip (which should play within the app), and some of the meta-data fields. File locations for images and movies would be fixed relative to whatever folder the app was located in. The app also needs the ability to add bulk groups of content that have their own XML database file i.e. append to the existing file. Ideally it would be possible to add individual new pieces of content manually too i.e. type in all of the database info for a single piece of new content. Users of the application need to be able to edit the secondary keyword field in the database i.e. to add their own keywords that would then be searched as part of a keyword search. However, all other fields in the database should not be editable by the user from within the application. In a perfect world, the application would allow for the number of fields in the database to be expanded. It would also allow the user to specify which of the fields were displayed in the search results e.g. unique ID and image/movie link always show up, but any other fields can be added. Last but not least, I will need an administrative tool that takes a CSV or other Excel-exportable file and converts it in to the database format. Everything can be within an HTML framework i.e. browser based if that is easier. Javascript etc is fine as long as the app is multi-platform compatible. If you have an alternative suggestion for how the app should be coded, please let me know. Just bear in mind it will need to run on a variety of PC, Mac and UNIX environments Please email with questions. Budget is to be discussed.
