Hi, Buck convertors need a minimum voltage and minimum current to work properly. So instead of a 0- I/P voltage, 0-5A configuration, it is more realistic to design for a 10-40V 1-5A buck convertor. Obviously the range can be bigger but then the complexity of the system increases tremendously. We go through your requirement and would like to be a part of your project. TL594 is a good PWM controller IC and as per your interest we can go proceed with that. But it seems a little bit costly too. (Reference Mouser). If you are looking for low cost design , we can suggest you some other ICs or we can even go with low cost micro controllers which will achieve all the above functionalities and your design flexibility will also increase. Also on topology side, may I know which topology you are looking? We can suggest you fly back topology, rather than simple buck converter, because it will provide more safety to input power and also provide output short-circuit protection.
