Each chapter tells the same story from the point of view of one of the 5 protagonists and through their commentary, we hear their version of the same events. It adopts and explores the Rashmon Effect in which each character gives a different, and sometimes contradictory interpretation of the same incidents which are only fully understood by the reader in the final chapter when all the plot twists are revealed.
